Interior Painting

How to select the right paint for your home.

Which paint should you choose?

Paint comes in a number of sheen’s as well as in oil and latex. Latex paint is the most frequently used and preferred paint type to use because of its long-lasting durability and it is easy to clean up.

Which sheen should I select for my interior painting project?

The glossier the paint, the easier it is to clean up. Kitchen walls that tend to get fat on the wall, need high gloss sheen as you can easily wipe the wall down with a damp sponge.

Semi-gloss would also be a good choice for kitchens and baths. It is also cheaper than the gloss finish and is a very popular alternative. Satin sheens have a smooth finish to them and could also be used in kitchens, baths and hallways.

If you have walls with lots of flaws, select a flat or matte paint. The downside to this paint is it shows dirt more so choose this for rooms that will not get lots of fingerprints and dirt on them. The most popular sheen is eggshell. We recommend this for most rooms as it offers the best of both the flat and glossy worlds.

Which paint colours make a small room look bigger?

Light colours make a room look bigger and brighter. Light and bright walls are more sheeny, making space feel open and airy, which helps improve the effect created by natural light.

Dark colours, tend to absorb light, making a room look smaller.

For an optimum end result, select soft tones of off-white, blue and green, and remember that brighter rooms look bigger and more inviting. Try painting your wall trim in a lighter colour than your walls.

Exterior Painting

Like the hues you choose for indoors, exterior house colours should be ones you love coming home to day after day.

Choosing the right exterior paint colour scheme can make a big difference when considering the surroundings and charm that the outside of your home has. Exterior colours add beauty and add value to your house.

Due to so many colours and choices available, how do you make the right decision?

Choosing exterior painting colours

Consider the size of your house when planning to paint its exterior. The size of your home can have a great impact on what colours would be more suitable for your exterior. It can help you decide whether you would like to go for a darker effect or a lighter set of colours.

When selecting your colour scheme, take into account the construction or architecture of the house as well as the neighborhood it is situated in.

One of the best guidance to help you in your exterior painting is samples. This is something that most people forget in the excitement of deciding on colours.

You should always have a couple of colour choices and not limit it down to just one.

When considering an exterior paint scheme, it should at least have three main components. One is the dominant colour the other one an accent colour that adds dimension and attracts attention to windows, doors and other smaller parts and then the trim colour.
